Waikoloa Village has two Men’s golf clubs. One of the Men’s clubs plays on Wednesday and Saturday beginning at 7:42am. That club offers many social events during the year. The second Men’s club plays on Sundays with the same starting time. The Sunday club seems to have more of the hard-core golfers involved. Both lubs have golfers that range in age from 30 years old to 90 years old. Handicaps can range from scratch golfers to 40 handicappers. About 25% of the members belong to both clubs.
Club dues are $10 a year for each club. Dues are used to subsidize special tournaments that are held throughout the year. There is a mandatory $3 fee per year, per club, for the “Hole-in-one” fund. There is an optional $5 fee for the Annual “Ace of Ace’s tournament, which is held the 2nd Wednesday and Sunday in December. Some members who will not be on the island opt out of this tournament.
Members place $5 in a pot, on the days that you play, which goes towards the “Game of the Day” and “Closest to the Pin” jackpots.
Members can bring guests. Guest pay a $1 fee each time that they play. Guests may play with the clubs a maximum of 2 times before they are required to join the club. Guests and Members without a current handicap are not allowed to play in the “Game of the Day”. They can however participate in the “Closest to the Pin” contest.
Most members play from the white tees. If you are a single digit handicapper you can play from the Blue tees. If your age plus your handicap is 90 or greater you have the option to play from the gold tees. There is no red tee option at this time.
There is an in-house handicapping service for which there is no charge to members. It uses only club scores from WVGC. A USGA-GHIN handicapping service is available from the WVGC pro-shop for a fee of $21 a year. This covers from January 1st to December 31st.
